Asthma Drugs
There are two parts for asthma treatment. The aim is to:
• long-term asthma control.
To do this, use a daily asthma care plan. This is a written plan which informs about the drugs taken. This also helps you keep track of symptoms and know all too well the treatment / medication was working. Many people take controller medications are usually inhaled corticosteroid per day. Using the controller medication every day to help reduce swelling in the airways and prevent attacks. The doctor will show you how to use the inhaler correctly. It is important that you get the correct amount of medicine to help you breathe better.
• Treatment as an asthma attack occurs.
Using an asthma action plan, which tells you what to do if you have an asthma attack. Help you identify the triggers that can cause your asthma attacks. You use the rescue medication, such as albuterol, during an attack.
If you need to use a rescue inhaler more often than usual, talk to your doctor. This is a sign that your asthma is not controlled and can cause problems.
Asthma attacks can be life threatening, but you may be able to prevent them if you follow the plan. The doctor can teach the skills you need to use asthma care and a plan for action.
How do you prevent an asthma attack?
You can prevent some asthma attacks by avoiding things that cause them. These are called triggers. Triggers can include:
• Irritants in the air, like smoke or air pollution. Do not smoke, and try to avoid smoking around them.
• The things you are allergic to, such as pet hair (cats, dogs), dust, cockroaches, or pollen. If you can avoid the things that you are allergic to it. It can also help make sure to select the type of allergy medication.
• Ask about the doctor uses inhaler (inhaler) if the exercise can trigger you.
• Other things such as heat, cold, infection, or drugs such as aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Try not to exercise outside when it was cold and hot. Talking to your doctor about a vaccine to prevent infection, and ask about what medicines you should avoid.
Sometimes you do not know what triggers an asthma attack. This is why the importance to have an asthma action plan that tells you what to do during the attack.
